I was going through my YouTube feed today when I found the newest video by the US Independent Institute think tank. The context and content of which literally turned my stomach.
It was a 40 minute presentation by certain members talking about all the ways COVID-19 could be opportunistically used to get more deregulation of the US economy.
Taking advantage of a world wide pandemic to move the US economy more rightward is sick and twisted. I agree with cutting red tape and getting rid of unneeded economic burdens. However, using the pandemic to push political agenda is sick from either side of the political isle.
Right now is not the time to be scoring political points. This is a time for collective action and sacrifice for the sake of a life or death situation. We will reopen the economy at the pace best aligned with the global health of our society. I hope that includes fiscally responsible decisions, but, human health is the only true priority at this time.
