Hypnotherapy is just as much of a cult as any organized religion.

It has taken me a long time on this page/blog to tackle something as complex to research a thing as hypnotism. I have refrained from even touching the subject until I did a good deal of research myself. This research including so-called hypnotic trances and the result was well, frankly it is complete and utter bullshit. Even scientists whom are cautious with such words will admit so.

Hypnotism is mostly simply the placebo effect, the shutting off of critical thinking and role playing. More or less anyone you see anyone in a so-called hypnotic trance they are simply playing the role of doing what the hypnotist asks them. There is 0 evidence of it being a form of mind control or even a form of anything special.

Some people use the term highway hypnosis for example for those times when time passes by driving, but, you did indeed drive. You are not under mind control in these moments and nor are you doing anything special that does anything at all. You are simply so swept up in the moment that it seems like time passed by without you realizing it.

The one thing it is not for sure is a cure or therapy for anything that might be ailing you. The idea that hypnotherapy is some amazing feet that can do wonders is total bollocks. It is akin to the creationists and their talk of Jesus Saves. The idea that hypnosis is a therapy for anything is not backed by any actual scientific studies that are not just pseudio-scientific bullshit. In fact, in the case of things like anxiety the experience could have a nocebo effect as well.

Please if you have a real serious issue go see an actual accredited therapist and not one of these snake oil salesmen. If you go to one of these charlatans all you will end up getting is exploited and fall for a  massive con game. Hypnotherapy is as much a cult as organized religion and just as dangerous to medicine and mental health. Go see an actual psychologist or psychiatrist please, and stay away from these people whatever you do.
