Creationism in Camouflage: The “Intelligent Design” Deception

For decades creationists have sought to replace evolution with the book of Genesis. But defenders of evolution have consistently prevailed in the schools and the courts of law. This struggle for intellectual survival has led to the evolution of a new “species” of creationist, better adapted to its inhospitable environment. The new Creationism goes by the name “Intelligent Design” and poses a greater danger than old-style creationism. In this talk Dr. Lockitch will examine the Intelligent Design movement: mysticism masquerading as science. --- Headquartered in Irvine, California, ARI offers educational experiences, based on Ayn Rand's books and ideas, to a variety of audiences, including students, educators, policymakers and lifelong learners. ARI also engages in research and advocacy efforts, applying Rand's ideas to current issues and seeking to promote her philosophical principles of reason, rational self-interest and laissez-faire capitalism. ARI is composed of a dedicated board of directors and an energetic staff of more than 45 people. Ethical/Rational Egoism is not being a douche and Merry Christmas to my readers/listeners

It is a common mistake to think that a douche and an egoist is the same thing. The idea that someone  all about self nurturing and pursing happiness as their reason for living is the same thing as throat cutters. Or the same as the person that would slap the soup out of someones hand in a soup kitchen line. This is an incorrect and a myth. Or based on people whom themselves misunderstand egoism if they claim to be one. Egoism is not the absence of benevolence, but, instead includes benevolence by virtue of the virtue of justice.

Ethical or Rational Egoism means that you live life to pursue your own happiness. It means that you desire to live a life that is in your long-term life long rational self-interest or happiness. Rational and peaceful; reason based happiness. There is nothing in egoism that tells you to treat other people like dirt. Far from it Ethical egoism has within it a built in love for good people. Other people are other minds and just as capable as being good people as you are. Benevolence is a corollary of justice and for an Ethical Egoist justice is one of the main virtues.

The virtues at the core of Ethical Egoism/Rational Egoism are as follows; rationality, integrity, honesty, productiveness; independence, pride and justice. However, each individual Egoist can find other virtues to incorporate as well; or as they could also be called moral amplifiers. The main source of Ethical Egoism or Rational Egoism's virtues is Ayn Rand's Objectivism. However, as Egoism is not a dogma Egoists can get their virtues from all kinds of places as long as they are rational in nature and do not go against reality. Benevolence is part of justice; good will towards each other and kindness is a part of treating others justly.

People whom take on the label of Egoist and then treat others like shit are being unjust. They are forgetting that benevolence is justice towards good people. Thus they are breaking their own core virtue structure of their philosophy for living on Earth. They are being just plain a bad person and they should be called out for being so. By their fellow Ethical Egoists as much as by those whom misplace the blame for their badness on being an Egoist. Egoists that understand and do live by their philosophy need to be outspoken in pointing out the hypocrisy of said individuals.

Marry Christmas to all of my readers and listeners of my recent podcasts. I hope that all of you have a wonderful Holiday Season.

What are the Objectivist Virtues? A Primer or a Refresher

“The three cardinal values of the Objectivist ethics ... are: Reason, Purpose, Self-esteem, with their three corresponding virtues: Rationality, Productiveness, Pride.”
   ~ Ayn Rand

The virtues on which the primary values depend are rationality, productivity, and independence. The man who is successful in living is able to derive the values necessary for his life and to translate them into the virtues necessary to gain and keep them. Some skeptics might say that this is a "cold, unemotional, and rationalistic" way to go about life, but nothing can be further from the truth. The man who confidently acts to achieve the values necessary for his life knows that it is his life he is acting to further, and that it is his values that he is achieving. The emotional state of knowing that one is an effectual, capable, productive individual, who is master of his own destiny, is self-esteem. Self-esteem is the confidence one has in his own worth as a human being and his ability to achieve his values. When a man makes the achievement of his values a way of life, happiness is the state of consciousness that results. Thus, the rational, productive, and self-confident man knows the values of their life and takes pride in their achievements.

  • Rationality - this is the cardinal virtue, which leads to all other virtues. Rationality means using reason (and rejecting emotions) to identify reality.
  • Honesty is the refusal to fake reality.
  • Integrity is consistency in the application of reason.
  • Productivity means working to create one's values.
  • Independence means being first-handed, or refusing to leave one's thinking to others.
  • Pride is the pursuit of moral perfection. Pride is related to self-esteem - the belief that one is capable of gaining and keeping one's values--and that one deserves them.
  • Justice is the principle of applying reason to the actions of other men, or giving other people what they deserve.

Freedom & Flourishing as Matters of Science with Craig Biddle

Visualize a world where people are fully free to pursue their life-serving values and to trade with one another by mutual consent to mutual benefit. Imagine that most people in this world see such self-interested actions as morally good. Envision yourself, your friends, and your family consequently flourishing by orders of magnitude greater than you do today. Is such a world possible? It is. And it belongs to those who are willing to fight for it.

In this talk, Craig Biddle argues that in order to move ourselves and the culture toward this ideal, we must take a scientific approach. We must understand and embrace the fact that the principles of freedom and flourishing, like those of physics and engineering, are matters of observation and logic. And we must learn to communicate these truths to others with the same clarity we would expect from a competent engineer explaining how a lever works or why a building stands.
