FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, issues statement on Dignity and Freedom Day:

“Today, Canadians of Ukrainian descent and Ukrainians around the world are celebrating Dignity and Freedom Day.

“Established in 2014 in honour of Ukraine’s Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity, this day marks the resilience and dedication of the Ukrainian people in their efforts to build a safe, prosperous, and strong democratic state.

“We, as Canadians, are blessed to live in a democratic and free society. Canada’s strength is and always has been our freedom. This is why, since the onset of Putin’s aggression in Ukraine, we have been crystal clear that we will never recognize the Kremlin’s occupation of the Crimea and its military invasion of parts of the Donbas region. We will always stand by our friends and continue to condemn human rights violations and illegal persecutions on the occupied territories of Ukraine.
“We will always side with those who value freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. We are proud that Operation UNIFIER, started by our previous Conservative government, has contributed significantly to training and building capacity for Ukrainian troops, who are fearlessly fighting to defend their country and their freedom.

“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, please accept my best wishes to all those celebrating Dignity and Freedom Day and commemorating the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, the volunteers and soldiers, and all Ukrainians suffering at the hands of the Kremlin.
“Slava Ukrayini!”
